Our purpose is to bring hope and peace to families that are struggling raising children with mental health disorders.
New Hope Academy’s focus is to aid in the rebuilding of the child and the entire family.
Kasey Harmer, Founder
Kasey Harmer founded New Hope Academy in 2008. Kasey initially worked in providing respite care for families in need. Many families came from across the United States to work directly with Kasey, receive training, and gain a better understanding of how to best parent a child with behavioral and mental health disorders from a home perspective. However, Kasey wanted to extend the support network of training and education, while still allowing children to live at home. From this desire, New Hope Academy was founded.
Kasey is passionate about education and continuously seeks out the best research and treatment for children and families. She loves to learn and apply everything she learns to New Hope Academy and the families getting help there. Kasey also works as a direct resource in local schools to train teachers and administrative staff on how to handle a struggling child in the classroom.
LauraLee has a Special Education degree from Brigham Young University. Also, a degree in Marriage, Family and Human Development and a Minor in Psychology. At BYU, LauraLee also had the opportunity to play on the tennis team as a scholarship athlete.
Upon graduation, LauraLee worked as a Special Education Director at a local charter school in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Teaching in a traditional classroom setting limited the impact LauraLee wanted to make in helping children struggling with behavioral and mental health disorders. She knew some children needed more than Special Education available at local schools. At that time, she met Kasey Harmer. Kasey and LauraLee shared a vision of wanting to create more of a family approach to better help kids struggling with behavioral, emotional, and social issues.
LauraLee joined in Kasey’s efforts and began working at New Hope Academy in 2008. In 2009 she became a partner. LauraLee currently works as New Hope Academy’s Executive Director and as a consultant and trainer for local schools.
